“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven” – Matthew 5:16
All the little lights, they all shine for You. Yes. They all shine for Him, the One and Only.
I took this picture on the rooftop of an apartment building (yes, Mercer Bears, the rooftop of Phase 5) by my campus, Mercer University’s campus . I came up here to watch the sunset before a night of Ridge Worship (shoutout) at my friends’ house.
Quick parenthesis: (something you should know about me is that I absolutely love sunsets; absolutely love them. I believe they are one of the most captivating glimpses of the beauty of God. They put everything in perspective. They remind me that in darkness I can always find light and color, and they remind me of how truly small and vulnerable I am, and how Mighty and Great my God is. Anyways, you can read more about sunset stories in some of my other portfolio projects) moving on now…
The friend I’m riding with suddenly calls me to tell me he’s ready to pick me up. My stuff, of course, is all over the place: my Bible and notebook still open on the table, my headphones tangled up also somewhere on the table, pens (one probably got lost). I was still using my camera, and I was still sitting on two sofa cushions that I had put on a tall chair to be able to watch the sunset peacefully (short-people problems).
So anyways, I jump off the chair, throw the cushions on the sofa, grab all my stuff and throw into my bag, hang the camera (still on) on my neck, and speed to the elevator door. Halfway towards the door, I turn around to take one last look at the sunset… and this, ladies and gentlemen, is what I saw. Thank God the camera was still on, right?
The beauty of this picture is that it captures two holders of light: the sunset sky, and the light bulbs. Yes, two holders of light: God, and the children of God.
No people, I’m not saying that the sunset is God, but I am saying that God, His Light, is in the midst of the sunset.
I see this picture as a beautiful capture of the Lord’s light, and it abiding in all His children. If you take one more look, you’ll see the grand display of color and Light in the sky, and all the little lights shinning for Him.
A portrait of His Light, and His Light in all His children.
Hey, child, let your light shine. Let it shine for Him. Your light is His Light in you. Let it shine, and may others lift their eyes to see the wonders of His Light.
See beyond what you see.
